United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG)

UNOG performs liaison functions with permanent missions, including acting as a link to Member States concerning the reform of the United Nations; facilitates cooperation with regional and other intergovernmental organizations; facilitates inter-agency cooperation; builds partnerships in support of the work of the Organization, including with non-governmental organizations, research and academic institutions and the private sector; performs liaison functions with the host country authorities; provides administrative and other support services to a number of United Nations entities; manages the United Nations facilities at Geneva and provides conference services for the United Nations meetings held at Geneva and other locations.

The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) represents the Secretary-General in Geneva. It facilitates the work of the United Nations by providing conference and administrative services to a number of United Nations entities in Geneva and beyond.

We often refer to the Secretary-General’s Agenda for Peace (A/47/277 – S/2411 of 17 June 1992), which defines peacebuilding as: Action to identify and support structures which will tend to strengthen and solidify peace in order to avoid a relapse into conflict.

Description of activities
UNOG has initiated a project entitled "Our Common Peacebuilding Challenge: the Contribution of International Geneva", which aims to bring together the different stakeholders in Geneva engaged on peacebuilding issues. UNOG is a member of the Core Group advising the Geneva Centre for Security Policy on their project on "The UN Peacebuilding Commission and International Geneva".
