Debate on Would Putin be welcome in Switzerland to negotiate peace?

On 20 June 2024, our Executive Director, Dr. Annyssa Bellal, was invited on the Swiss Television's program "The Grand Débat". The discussion, conducted in French, centered around the  question, "Would Putin be welcome in Switzerland to negotiate peace?"

 Joining Dr. Bellal in this debate were Nadia Boehlen, spokesperson for the Swiss section of Amnesty International and Pierre Hazan, senior advisor with the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue. The trio delved into the complexities and implications of inviting President Vladimir Putin to Switzerland as a mediator for peace negotiations.

Dr. Bellal, known for her expertise in international law and conflict resolution, offered insightful arguments on the potential diplomatic ramifications and ethical considerations of such a move. The debate highlighted contrasting views, with Boehlen emphasizing human rights concerns and Hazan providing a nuanced analysis of geopolitical dynamics.
