The Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, in collaboration with the Geneva Graduate Institute and the Kofi Annan Foundation, is pleased to announce the fifth edition of the Kofi Annan Geneva Peace Address—a high-level annual lecture on peace held as part of Geneva Peace Week.
The 2025 Kofi Annan Geneva Peace Address will be delivered by Martin Griffiths, International Mediator and former United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.
Martin Griffiths is a distinguished international mediator and humanitarian with five decades of experience within the United Nations and beyond. He most recently served as UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, leading global responses to crises affecting hundreds of millions of people. Over his career, he has mediated conflicts across the world, including in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Aceh, and the Basque Country, and played a key role in brokering the Black Sea Grain Initiative. He was also the Founding Director of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva and the European Institute of Peace.
Mr Griffiths will engage in dialogue with three young peacebuilders to bridge intergenerational perspectives on peacebuilding and peacemaking, exploring innovative strategies for dialogue facilitation, conflict mediation, and sustainable peace:
- Mariyum Areeb Amjad, Program Officer, HIVE Pakistan
- Victoria do Nascimento Houpert, Member of the Peacebuilding Initiative and Master’s Student in International Development, Geneva Graduate Institute
- Dao Manh Nghia, Founder and President, DMN Initiative, SDGs Council, DMN Foundation
The conversation will be moderated by Ahmad Fawzi, one of Kofi Annan’s former spokespersons and communications advisors.
The Kofi Annan Geneva Peace Address is organized with the support of the Republic and State of Geneva and the City of Geneva, and will be introduced by Nathalie Fontanet, State Councillor and President of the State Council of the Republic and State of Geneva, and Keith Krause, Director of the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding at the Geneva Graduate Institute.
