The Geneva Peacebuilding Platform (GPP), in its commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration, participated in the Launch of the Displacement Forecast Report organized by the Danish Refugee Council. Dr. Annyssa Bellal, our Executive Director, played a pivotal role in moderating this event held online on March 14, 2023. The gathering convened experts, practitioners, and policymakers to address the pressing challenge of displacement.

The Global Displacement Forecast Report 2024 provides the latest forecasts for forced displacement for 2024 and 2025 in 26 countries around the globe using a machine learning model developed by Danish Refugee Council and IBM. According to the model, the total number of people displaced globally is forecasted to increase by 3.7 million in 2024 and an additional 3.1 million in 2025 entailing a total increase of 6.8 million. The report explores current trends related to the deterioration in the conditions driving displacement including a spike in violence against civilians and environmental hazards.
Under the theme "The Gaza War: Regional and Global Dimensions," the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform’s Executive Director was invited to moderate an insightful discussion led by Professor Cyrus Schayegh and organized by the Geneva Graduate Institute on March 26, 2024. Delving into Palestinian and Israeli perceptions, politics, and the broader repercussions of the ongoing conflict, the event aimed at fostering deeper understanding and dialogue between the two deeply traumatized communities. Dr. Annyssa Bellal, moderated the session, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and comprehensive efforts in addressing regional conflicts.
In the wake of recent geopolitical shifts and escalating conflicts with profound humanitarian ramifications, the imperative for closer collaboration among international partners has never been more apparent. Recognizing this urgency, the GPP will facilitate the upcoming thematic session at the IC Forum in Basel, Switzerland, scheduled for April 11. Under the theme "Shaping Tomorrow's Peace: Nexus for Peace in West Africa," and moderated by Dr. Annyssa Bellal, the session will explore innovative approaches to address the complex challenges facing the Sahel region.
Through these different engagements and thanks to the support and collaboration of its strong and wide community, the GPP aims at amplifying the voice of those that work constantly to strengthen peacebuilding action in armed violence situations.
