Geneva Peace Forum Meets Vienna: Strengthening Connections Across Peace and Security Communities

On 3 June 2025, the Geneva peacebuilding Platform (GPP), together with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (oiip), convened the third edition of GPF Meets meets Vienna at the Park Hyatt Vienna. Bringing together diplomats, practitioners, researchers, representatives of international organizations, civil society actors and peacebuilding experts. The event provided a platform to strengthen connections between Geneva and Vienna’s multilateral communities and to explore practical approaches to addressing today's complex peace and security challenges.

Human Rights Obligations in the Arms Trade: Rethinking Risk for Institutional Investors

On 28 May 2026, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform co-hosted an online discussion exploring how human rights obligations in the arms trade are reshaping risk for institutional investors. Organized in partnership with Heartland Initiative, the Essex Business and Human Rights Project, and St. Mary's University, the event brought together leading experts to examine the evolving intersection of human rights, finance, and global security.

The Art of Quiet Diplomacy: Switzerland and Algeria's Role in the Iran Hostage Crisis

On 12 May, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, in partnership with Diverscités, organised a special event in Geneva examining the discreet yet decisive diplomatic roles played by Switzerland and Algeria in resolving the American hostage crisis in Iran between 1979 and 1981.

Held at the Maison des Arts du Grütli, the event brought together diplomats, researchers, members of civil society and the public for an evening of historical reflection and discussion on mediation, neutrality and international diplomacy.

Event Recap: Colombia, A Forgotten Conflict?

On Tuesday, May 19, Fight for Humanity co-organized a panel discussion entitled “Colombia: A Forgotten Conflict? Truth, Reconciliation, and Local Initiatives” together with the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, and the City of Geneva. Bringing together more than 40 participants both in person and online, the event explored Colombia’s current peacebuilding challenges, ongoing reconciliation efforts, and the essential role of locally led initiatives in supporting sustainable peace.

Synergy in Action: IHL and Islamic Law for Humanitarian Outcomes

On 11 May 2026, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) co-organized a high-level event titled “Synergy in Action: IHL and Islamic Law for Humanitarian Outcomes” with the University for Peace and with the support of the League of the Arab States, Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees and the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform.
